July 27th -- women's ride with sponsored Pro team, Team Vera Bradley Foundation
The Monday Night Ride - BEGINS April 5th
The Poplollies will be leading the Monday Night Women's Ride to encourage other women to get out and have fun, to get some exercise, to foster new friendships, and to enjoy riding their bikes. our rides begin at 5:45 pm. This is always a "no drop" ride, meaning you will be looked after and will never have to ride alone. The rides will be an hour to an hour and a half, and that speed should be approx 13-15 mph.
Note: The fifth Monday in August will replace the first Monday (Labor Day) in September.
The first Monday of each month will leave from:
Wheel Works Bicycle Shop
route: Fir Butte/Clear Lake store - out and back (25.86 mi.)
The second Monday of each month will leave from:
Riverbend Oregon Imaging Centers
Meeting place: the plaza outside the back doors of the Northwest Specialty Clinics, by OIC Breast and MRI Center, 3355 RiverBend Dr. and the fountain opposite the main entrance to the hospital.
short route, first part of spring: McKenzie View Short - OIC (16.91 mi.)
normal route: McKenzie View Loop (25.07 mi.)
The third Monday of each month will leave from:
Blue Heron Bicycles
route: Fox Hollow McBeth (19.20 mi.)
The fourth Monday of each month will leave from:
Life Cycle
route: Crow Loop from Life Cycle (24.86 mi.)
Just to be clear:
There's a little weirdness in Aug. with a fifth Monday and then the 1st Mon. in Sept. being Labor Day. So: for Wheelworks we have rides on 7/5, 8/2, and 8/30; for Riverbend 7/12, 8/9, 9/13; for Blue Heron 6/21, 7/19, 8/16, 9/20; and for Life Cycle 6/28, 7/26, 8/23, 9/27.
The Women's "Thursday Nighter"
Generally is held from the beginning of the Daylight Savings Time change until the end of August. The Poplollies would like to invite any women interested in a harder workout/race-paced ride to join Eugene-area cyclists on Thursday's group rides. The "Thursday Nighter" is more of a race-oriented ride. Slower riders are welcome if they want to come out, but everyone will be responsible for themselves, unlike Monday's ride in which everyone will be looked out for and not left behind. The Thursday Nighter is about a 30 mile ride with a fast pace. The men leave Church Corners at 5:30pm, the women leave at 5:40pm. Here is a general printable ride map. Riders leave Church Corner from the Twin Oaks Church at the corner of Lorane Hwy., Bailey Hill, and Spencer Creek Roads. (The Men's ride leaves at 5:30.)
Saturday Skill Building Rides
The Poplollies will be leading a skill building ride every Saturday beginning August 2010 and will continue through the winter if attendance warrants. Rides will be starting at 9:00 AM from Full City on the corner of 13th and High. We'll be working on riding as a group, drafting, pacelining, cornering, etc. as well as doing a little socializing. These rides are aimed towards getting women out on their bicycles for fun and fitness, but ultimately we are looking to grow our ranks as a racing team. Please contact Kori if you have any questions at kori_kunz(at)yahoo.com or use our Contact page.
The Women's July Criterium Series and Clinics
Every year in July the Poplollies put on a criterium clinic and race series geared towards introducing women cyclists to criterium racing and giving local women racers an opportunity to compete in a women-only field. Click here to see the 2010 flyer.
